In 2002, Funimation released Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge on VHS in the West. At the time, any DBZ movie I could find, I picked up. After watching the movie, I realized just how much I favored the new film’s antagonist. Cooler’s Revenge stars Frieza’s brother, Cooler, who is less arrogant and packs some devastating power. Cooler returned later in Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler as an emulation. Now, he is going to be a playable character in the newest Dragon Ball series video game.

Dragon Ball FighterZ released in January of this year and has since become a successful fighting game with high sales and rapid growth as a popular eSport.

Cooler’s DLC announcement came from a leak shortly after the game’s release but we now have an official trailer showing Frieza’s older brother and all the power he has ready for Goku and the gang.

Base Goku and Base Vegeta are also shown in the trailer with new dynamic finishes.

Writer’s Opinion:

I’m impressed with the change of formula Dragon Ball FighterZ went with compared to previous titles. The gameplay and repetition of the same Dragon Ball Z story started to become a burden to play each time a new title came out, and eventually, I stopped playing Dragon Ball games altogether. Dragon Ball FighterZ is an exception and I am happy to see Bandai Namco Entertainment change the overall structure to a traditional fighting game. Now, with the addition of Cooler joining the fight, I am overly excited to see how he controls and compares to the rest of the fighters. Though, depending on how much the DLC cost, will be the deciding factor with my purchase.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam with a Switch version releasing on September 26.

Will you be fighting as Cooler when the DLC drops?
